The punt is a fairly basic thing to build, but has its own elegance with her flared topsides and rising sheer. The ply "tinnies'' will need a few months to build, but you have that opportunity to customize the layout, something the fisherman would appreciate. The bigger designs are likely to need a good year to construct and fit out.

The popular Woodie, a plywood "tinnie" at 3.36m and its bigger sister at 4.50m are simple but strong, with a modest amount of 'V' forward to handle choppy conditions with a bit more comfort. The 1.46m beam Woodie is made from 6mm ply and can use a 15hp outboard motor. Estimated weight is 44kgs less engine. Plans include lines, construction and arrangement, and a set of full size templates for the mould stations, bulkheads and stem profile. $110.00
An immaculate Woodie
The bigger 4.50m planing dinghy also uses 6mm ply, with 200gsm fabric on the bottom panel, dynel on the sides. At 1.78m beam and 0.75m depth, this is a big volume boat , capable of using a 25hp outboard. Plans include lines, construction and arrangement, and a set of full size templates for the mould stations, bulkheads and stem profile. $110.00
The 3.65m punt is a good first time project, and the flared hull and curved sheer give this craft a nice appearance. 4mm ply is used throughout, and all the panels, bulkheads etc come from 4 sheets of ply. Oregon longitudinals are used on the joints and edges, and she comes out weighing about 45kgs. Plans include lines, construction and arrangement, full size templates for mould stations and a layout with offsets for the panels, to fit the ply sheets. $80.00
A first project for this builder, taking his wife out on launching day.
The 5m Ski Boat is based on the classic Australian clinker ski boats. Built in glued lapstrake using 12mm ply for the planking, ply bulkhead and laminated frames, this becomes a more easily maintained hull. Beam is 1.80m, and she can be fitted with the old style of marinised car engine, or a more modern vee configuration used on current ski boats. Plans include lines, hull construction, arrangement, and full size templates for the mould stations and stem profile. These plans are only available from WoodCraft Boats P/L PO BOX 515 Leichhardt NSW Australia 2040 0412 039 589 $250.00 not including postage.
Another simple ply hull with robust scantlings is this 6.2m Fisher, with a built in floodable fish tank. This craft uses 9.5mm ply and 400gsm fabric reinforcement on the exterior. She is 2.45m wide and has a shallow 'V'. It does not need a big engine - a 60hp outboard will give good speed. Plans include lines, construction and arrangement, and a set of offsets for the stem and mould or frame stations. $110.00
Combining modern strip plank construction with some traditional styling and a concave hull bottom, the Russcraft 4800 is a smart runabout with a comfortable ride heading into choppy conditions. The planking is 11mm WR Cedar and 410gsm db fabric. A 50hp 4 stroke pushes her along above 25 knots. She is 4.75m long by 1.85m wide and can carry 5 people. Plans include lines, construction, arrangement, and full size templates for the mould stations and stem profile. $330.00
The prototype Russcraft 4800
Similar concave sections to the Russcraft 4800 are used on the Utility Workboat. The 10mm plywood glued lapstrake construction enhances its lines, and it can be built in a variety of arrangements. The length can be either 5.9m or 6.9m. A 60hp 4 stroke will provide enough power to plane at over 20knots. The basic plan set covers the lines, construction/arrangement and full size templates for the mould stations and stem profile for the basic centre console version. This set costs: $330.00 The additional drawings, including templates, for the longer version or the variations (the fisher, raised deck or the cuddy cabin versions) are available separately. Cost per drawing: $66.00
